Good evening all! So today is a travel day to Blackpool for my mini breakaway; I am driving up to Blackpool, so come along for the ride!
So I started the day packing my stuff to take to Blackpool; I am just using a small carry-all bag that I use when going up to the caravan in Lowestoft, as I am only there for two nights. I don’t need to take a huge amount with me! So I packed my towel, washing stuff and toothbrush. I am also taking my laptop too so I can update my website!
I decided the best time to leave would be 11:00 as check-in at my hotel would be at 15:00, so considering it’s four and a half-hour car drive to Blackpool from Chelmsford, I thought that would be the best time! The journey was smooth, but I totally underestimated how tiring it can be to drive that long! I had to stop two times to rest a bit!! Definitely keep that in mind next time I do a road trip! I did love the road trip though it felt great just driving down the open road!
Talking of breaks, my first stop was at a Welcome Break on the M6; I grabbed some lunch here and just relaxed for 45-50 minutes. I was so stiff when I left my car after driving 2 hours and 30 minutes! It’s so tiring! For lunch, I had a Burger King, which was quite lovely!
After lunch, I grabbed a coffee from Starbucks and returned to my journey. I know this will sound weird to people…. but I went on the M6 toll, my first-ever toll road! The road was smoother and less busy, making my journey a breeze! After about an hour of driving, I had to stop again as I felt tired! I underestimated how tired it makes you!!! My next stop was another Welcome Break Keele for a quick pit stop and loo break.
At this point, I only had an hour and a half left of the journey, and overall it had been relatively smooth! I enjoyed the road trip, but next time I’ll be more prepared!! I arrived at the hotel for check-in at around 17:30 this evening; I checked in and realised I had made a rookie mistake…. oops! Here is a quick video tour of my room:
So on to the mistake….as you can hear in the video, I thought there was air con in the room….oh how wrong I was!! I looked really silly when I went downstairs and asked why the air con wasn’t working!! Basically, I misread it and was looking at the wrong hotel…. the hotel is about 5 miles down the road from here… Oh, dear…In future, I will double check!!! Moving swiftly on… it was time for dinner!
As part of my booking, I included dinner and breakfast for both nights and mornings, so I don’t have to worry about food while here. Tonight I had BBQ chicken and Jam Rolly Polly, as you can see above! It was quite nice! Shame the Jam Rolly Polly was a little jamless, but overall it was nice!
After dinner, I drove up the road and popped to Asda to get a few more essentials I did not pack at home for my stay. This ASDA is enormous!!! It’s probably one of the biggest I have seen! So I wandered, bought a few things for my visit, and then returned to the hotel.
So that’s my mini travel day! I enjoyed the drive up despite being quite tired…I will be more aware in the future; I think I still prefer the flying travel days, they are more fun and you get to leave the country! But overall good; I now know I have to check my hotel in future properly, so I don’t make the same mistake! For the rest of the evening, I will sit back and relax! Tomorrow I am heading to the Sealife Centre and Madame Tussauds, which should be fun! See you tomorrow!
